What is CBD? A Quick Overview...
CBD has been the buzzword of this season and many seasons past. You'll find it showing up in everything from infused water to shower gels. But what do we know about this cannabis-derived compound that has been rebranded from depraved to desirable?
Currently, the UK market is estimated to be worth around £300 million a year as CBD continues to diversify and appear in more and more products as it enters the mainstream. CBD users remain optimistic about this hero hemp oil as sales continue to increase both within the UK and globally. This increase in CBD sales strongly suggests that consumers are gaining benefits from their CBD products of choice.
So what is CBD? CBD, also known as Cannabidiol, is 1 of over 100 organic compounds found within the cannabis plant. However, unlike THC, the cannabinoid that makes you feel 'high' or 'stoned', CBD has no psychoactive effect, which means it can be taken as a complementary daily supplement with no adverse effects.
How Does CBD Work?
Weirdly, our bodies also produce cannabinoids. These cannabinoids bind to an internal cell-signalling system called the endocannabinoid systems (ECS) which is responsible for regulating various bodily functions, including mood, sleep, inflammation, immune function, stress and digestion (to name just a few). Interestingly, all animals, including mammals, birds, fish & reptiles, all have an ECS.
When CBD is taken orally (or topically), these cannabinoids also bind to our ECS receptors which experts now believe can help achieve and maintain homeostasis. What's homeostasis, you ask? Very simply put, homeostasis is the ability to maintain an optimum internal steady-state of our bodies.
As mentioned, the cannabis plant contains over 100 cannabinoids, each of which offers potential benefits. The entourage effect is a school of thought based on using the whole hemp plant to produce CBD oil, resulting in a broad spectrum of cannabinoids (not just CBD). The inclusion of additional cannabinoids is thought to maximise the potential benefits and effect.
Many UK suppliers do not offer broad-spectrum CBD, but we do things properly here at Mendy. We take great pride in the fact all of our CBD Oils, Capsules, and Gummies are broad-spectrum as we believe this process delivers the most substantial benefits.
It's important to mention here that our broad-spectrum CBD oils are THC free and will never get you high.
Will I Really Not Get High?
The zombie stoner who has the munchies cliché does not exist with CBD. CBD does not get you feeling high or out of control.
As a member of the Cannabis Trades Association (CTA), we are regulated, and all Mendy products are lab tested to ensure they are THC free and compliant with UK laws. While we on the subject of law...
Is CBD Legal?
Absolutely. CBD is legal in the UK and most other countries around the world. UK law specifies THC must remain at trace levels such as those stocked by Mendy. Always buy from a trusted seller to ensure quality and high-spec products.

The potential benefits of CBD extend beyond oral consumption. We are incredibly proud of our range of CBD infused topicals, formulated to keep you playing hard and living easy.
All Mendy products are vegan-friendly (except our Muscle Rub which contains beeswax) and formulated with all-natural ingredients to complement all types of wellness routines.
How Much CBD Should I Take?
How much CBD should you take? Great question. As with a new exercise routine or changes in diet, we suggest you start low and go.
Everyone is different, but most research suggests starting with 2 or 3 doses of around 10mg daily. After a few days, if the desired outcome has not been achieved, incrementally increase your intake until you establish your optimum dose.
It is important to note here that a 2017 World Health Organisation (WHO) report states that it's impossible to overdose on CBD. The WHO also advises that Cannabidiol is not addictive in humans.
